Thousands of pounds worth of copping piping and tools are believed to have been stolen after suspected thieves forced their way into a shipping container.
Police say the thieves struck around Castle Hill Road in Hindle earlier this week on the evening of Thursday April 18.
An investigation into the disappearance of the copper piping and tools is now underway and officers have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “During the evening of April 18 2024 entry was forced to a shipping container around the Castle Hill Road area of Hindley from which thousands of pounds worth of copper piping and associated tools for the maintenance of trainline power cables were stolen.”
They added: “Metal is in use everywhere, on your homes, you businesses and in the community. Please be vigilant and report any suspicious activity.”
As yet no further details have been released about how many people are believed to have been involved in the suspected theft.

But police hope that any possible witnesses who come forward will be able to help them with their investigation.
