A motorist had to be kept in police cells until he was sober after being caught more than four times the drink drive limit, police have said.
Officers say they came across a Lexus while out on patrol in Pendleton, Salford, at the weekend.
Police believed the motorist to be over the drink drive limit and so proceeded to carry out a breath test.
When they did so they say the driver was found to have 153 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.
The legal limit is 35, meaning that the driver had been at the wheel four times over the allowed amount.
Police revealed what took place afterwards.
Officers also believed the driver had no licence or insurance.
A spokesperson said: "This Lexus was stopped by a patrol yesterday in Pendleton.
"Driver provided a breath test of 153, the limit is 35.
"In custody he failed to provide a further sample and was kept in the cells until he was sober which was 17 hours later.
"He was charged with failure to provide a sample, having no licence and no insurance."
