When this photo was taken in May 1990 there were fears that this landmark pub in Bolton town centre would be demolished.
Plans to knock down the Swan Hotel in Bradshawgate at the corner of Churchgate and replace the Grade II listed building with shops, offices and a new pub had been lodged with the council.
Bolton Civic Trust opposed and plan and were successful in saving the building dating to the early 1800s when it was built as a coaching inn.
The plans were withdrawn and the pub reopened in 1992 with Swannies bar catering for the 18-30 crowd, the Malt and Hops Bar for real ale lovers and the Buttery Bar for diners. It is now the Swan and Barristers.
