One of Bolton’s key engineering companies will be starting work on supplying one of the country’s most important railway projects soon.

Great Lever based Booth Industries is set to be a supplier for the HS2 railway project between London and Birmigham and is expected to supply around 300 door sets.

This has helped the firm expand its site, workforce and apprenticeships, as Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham and Bolton South East MP Yasmin Qureshi heard on a recent visit.

Booth Industries managing director Mike Jenkinson said: “We were delighted to welcome Andy and Yasmin to Booth Industries and to have the opportunity to discuss key issues that impact the sector with them.  

“The North West has a rich manufacturing heritage and Booth Industries has played a key part in that over the last 150 years, with our specialist doors being chosen by leading infrastructure, defence and transport customers around the world.

“As we move into the advanced manufacturing age, dialogue and collaboration between policy makers and industry is crucial if we’re to drive innovation and create the environment we need to deliver growth.

Booth Industries is expected to start building the HS2 doors as early as the start of 2025.

Mr Burnham and Ms Qureshi had toured the Booth Industries site, off Nelson Street, as part of the Greater Manchester Mayor’s visit to the borough on Friday April 5.

Mr Jenkinson took the pair on a tour of the factory, introduced them to employees and showed them examples of the company’s operations.

These included its work on HS2, the Northern link of which was controversially cancelled by the government last autumn, and other large infrastructure projects around the world.

They were also introduced to introduced to staff from Booth Industries’ parent company Avingtrans PLC.

Mr Jenkinson and other staff also took the opportunity to talk to Mr Burnham and Ms Qureshi about how important they believed collaboration between Westminster and industry could be

Ms Qureshi said: “Engineering is part of Bolton’s past, present and future.

“Booth Industries is leading the way into that future for our town.

“It was a privilege to join the Mayor on this visit and showcase the work Booth is doing on key infrastructure projects.”
