Not a car parking space to be found in this photo of Nelson Square in Bolton from 1963.
There’s a fine selection of what are now regarded as classic cars but of equal interest is the building in the background.
The Red Cross Hotel would close in 1964 and be demolished four years later. It had a long history in the town having been built in 1817.
At one point it had the nickname T’Blood Tub, possibly because injured mill workers would call in for a stiff drink on the way to the infirmary situated at the top of Nelson Square.
Anyone remember the Red Cross Hotel?
