A daughter has paid a beautiful tribute to her dad as a memorial bench has been unveiled at the tearoom he worked at as a much loved chef.

Brian Turner died on December 11 after a short battle with lung cancer.

The 58-year-old worked for 13 years as a chef at the popular Village Green Tea Rooms and was known for making pies, quiche, and the ‘Brian special’ BLT with mayonnaise.

Following his death, The Village Green Tea Rooms installed a memorial bench outside for people to sit and relax and remember Brian.

Brian’s daughter, Megan Turner said: “We have raised over £850 in a Just Giving page and some money raised at the tearooms too.

“The bench is up, in time for his birthday - happy 59th birthday daddy.

“The rest of the money will go to The Christies and the palliative care team.

“We miss him loads and are very proud of him.”

Brian became ill in October and was later diagnosed with lung cancer, but he is remembered by all the staff at the tearooms including owners Jane and Jade Tolen.

Megan told The Bolton News: “I used to help out at the tearooms on the odd Sundays and I loved working with him, he worked so hard, but I used to take the mick out of him when he was moaning.

“He loved doing full English’s, but he had the special Brian's BLT that people loved a lot.

“Then I had my little boy and on my days off we used come up to tearooms to see dad and have one of his breakfast specials, he put such love and care into the food.”

Brian's name will live on at the tearoom with ‘Brian’s BLT’ now a permanent menu fixture.

Megan said: “Having the bench up at the tearooms is special because it's where he loved to be, winding up the staff.

“He had such a bond with the customers too and he made some good friends.

“The tearoom is like a family and I'm forever grateful for them looking after my dad.

“So, I'm really looking forward to the summer where we can sit outside on the bench and just relax knowing that the bench is for my dad, and he is missed and loved by many.”

“There is no expiration date on the love between a father and his child.”
