A councillor has been honoured for his ongoing volunteer work with the Royal British Legion.
Cllr Luis McBriar, who represents Tottington, has received an award for five years’ service to the Royal British Legion.
The award presentation took place on Wednesday, March 27 at Bury Town Hall with several volunteers receiving awards for their service, ranging from five to 30 years.
Cllr McBriar’s award was "in appreciation of the excellent work carried out over the last five years for the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal".
During his ongoing work for the charity, he has also made several visits to the battlefields of Europe to visit the graves of those from Bury.

Cllr McBriar said: “This is a real honour to receive, like many people, I have a strong connection to the Royal British Legion and have the utmost appreciation for the vital work which they undertake.”
He added: “I want to thank all the people who support the Royal British Legion each year and I’m very much looking forward to taking part in this year’s collection in November.”
Cllr McBriar decided to get involved with the armed forces charity as the organisation “means a lot to his family".
His maternal great grandfather died during the Second World War in Malta and his paternal great grandfather was a prisoner of war Lamsdorf Camp in the First World War.

He added that his grandparents instilled in him a pride in wearing a poppy, a symbol of support for the armed forces, both past and present.
Cllr McBriar also has friends who are veterans and service members and said that the Royal British Legion has always been there to support veterans and their families.
The charity, which organises the annual Poppy appeal, was founded in 1921 and supports serving members of the Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Air Force, veterans, and their families.
