Traffic officers came to rescue of an elderly couple who got lost in Manchester after a trip to the city from Wales.

Reports the pair were lost came in last night and Greater Manchester Police's Traffic Unit located the car on the M60 after a search.

Police say that the motorist had been driving for hours and officers took them to safety.

A spokesman for GMP Traffic Unit said: "Best efforts to guide them off safely difficult as driver confused, brought to a full stop on M62.

"Driving for 10hrs."

He added: "Blue light first class taxi back to safety."

Yesterday, traffic officers were in Bury as part of Operation Avro.
