A convicted murderer has been on the run from police for over a month.

Eden Lomax, 27, was jailed as a 17-year-old boy in 2013 for a single punch attack that killed a man in Bolton town centre in 2013.

In February this year police said that he was wanted on recall to prison and now, more than a month on, have confirmed he is still a wanted man.

A GMP statement said: “Eden Lomax is wanted on recall to prison and for serious assault and criminal damage.

“Lomax is known to have links to the Bolton and Salford areas.

“Anybody with information regarding his whereabouts should call 999 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

Lomax was sentence to life imprisonment in 2013 with a minimum term of 10 years after murdering 43-year-old Simon Mitchell, a total stranger to him, in Victoria Square.

At his sentencing hearing that year, the court heard how Lomax had been hanging around Victoria Square with friends in Bolton when Mr Mitchell approached the group.

Lomax lashed out with a punch that knocked Mr Mitchell to the floor and he suffered catastrophic brain injuries.

He was declared dead at the scene just outside the branch of the former Game  store on Victoria Square at around 9pm that evening.

Lomax, then of Northwood Crescent, Deane, had attacked two other people in the weeks before.

But he became eligible for release thanks to a decision in May 2020 to reduce his sentence to nine years.

This was because of  the “exceptional progress” he had made while serving as a prisoner in HMP Dovegate, Staffordshire.

Allowing the appeal, Mr Justice Hilliard said: "The applicant had also completed offending-related work as regards alcohol and violence, restorative justice, anger management, and courses on self-control, motivation to change and relapse prevention.

"He had improved his educational and vocational prospects, gaining qualifications in painting and decorating, carpentry and joinery, business ventures, English and maths.”

But on February 9 this year, police put out an appeal to trace Lomax in connection with a “serious assault.”

Police most recently asked for the public’s help in finding him over a month later as part of a Bolton’s most wanted appeal on Wednesday March 20.
