Around £2m worth of funding is expected to be spend on two major Bolton roads, deemed amongst the most dangerous in the country.
The money will be spent on improving the A676 which leads from the M61 to the town centre, and the A579 along the southern side of the town.
These could be set to include clearer signage and road markings with improved pedestrian crossings and cycle lanes.
Bolton North East MP Mark Logan said: “It’s right that this government is prioritising Boltonians' safety with this backing of over £2m.
“It’s imperative that the community feels safe at home and out and about in the constituency and these extra precautions will save lives.
“Improving the traffic flow also makes it easier for residents to go about their daily lives.”
The £2m comes as part of £38.3m handed out to councils for road improvements around the country from the government’s safer roads project.
This has focused especially on areas of Greater Manchester which have been identified as high risk after seeing significant crashes over the last two years.
The two Bolton roads and the surround areas have seen their share of crashes like these in recent times.
Most recently on March 10 this year St Peters Way was closed between the A676 and A579 after a suspected two car crash.
But according to Mr Logan the scheme for the A676 is expected to prevent more than 25 fatal and serious injuries over a 20-year period.
He says that the proposed scheme for the A579 is expected to prevent more than nine fatal and serious injuries over the same time frame.

If this proves accurate, more than 30 people could be spared from injuries like these over the next 20 years.
The Safer Roads Fund has already spent around £147.5m on 38 roads deemed to be “high risk” all around the country.
Transport Secretary Mark Harper MP said: “Britain’s roads are some of the safest in the world, but we are always looking at ways to help keep drivers and all road users safe.
“As part of the government’s plan to improve roads across the country, we’re providing an extra £38m so that local councils in England have the support they need to keep everyone safe, while reducing congestion and helping to grow the economy.”
