Lynn Meadowcroft has a special mission for 2024 – to recruit 30 new volunteers for Bolton Carers Support.

This would not only be part of the organisation’s celebrations of its 30th anniversary but also a kickstart to Lynn’s new job as its Volunteers’ Co-ordinator.

Lynn, whose own business as a Women’s Confidentiality Coach has made her an established figure in Bolton’s businesswomen’s networking and in local businesses, put on a workshop for Bolton Carers Support earlier last year.

“I just saw the advert for Volunteers’ Co-ordinator by chance but I already knew what a brilliant group they were so applied,” explained Lynn.

Her own background is in caring organisations. She was manager of Home-Start in Salford, supporting families, and was a volunteer with Bypass (now BACKUP North West) working with homeless youngsters.

Her new role – funded by People’s Health Trust raised by Health Lottery North West – brings her into supporting some of the local 5,000 registered carers. They are looking after the many people, often isolated and desperately in need of help, “and I’m already loving it!”, stated Lynn

“Anyone can volunteer to help and we’re happy to work around the amount of time they have available.”

There are volunteer roles available in outreach work, fundraising, a men’s group, events, groups, awareness training, admin, IT and social media, helping with the newsletter and as trustees.

“People can mix and match as they want to,” she added. “If they’d like to do some work in fundraising and then want to be involved with carers directly that’s fine.”

Lynn, working part-time in her new role and continuing to run her own workshops and sessions, believes that volunteering gives much back to individuals.

“It’s wonderful to be able to help people, to know that you are giving another person support especially when it’s to continue their own work caring for someone else,” she said.

“We want people from all walks of life and backgrounds, whether they can just spare an hour or two occasionally or regular slots. We can tailor-make volunteering time to suit.”
