A man drove under the influence of cocaine and while on a suspended sentence in Bolton – and was only caught when a vehicle crashed into his.

Lee Collier was on Bridgewater Avenue in Over Hulton in August last year.

Bolton Magistrates Court heard he was involved in a collision on a roundabout which was not his fault, but it was found he was under the influence of cocaine.

Victoria Forrest, prosecuting, said: “At around 3.20pm officers are called to the scene of a road traffic collision which has occurred on a roundabout.

“One vehicle had gone round a roundabout in the wrong direction and it has caused a head on collision.

“That is not Mr Collier.

“He is the vehicle driving in the correct direction and has been in that head on collision with the other driver.

“There has been a road side drugs test which is positive in respect of cocaine.

“The offence has come at the time when he is on a suspended sentence.”

At court Collier, 51 and from Mandley Park Avenue, Salford, admitted breaching a suspended sentence and driving under the influence of cocaine on August 13 last year.

Celia O’Keefe, defending, said: “He was driving in Bolton.

“He was traveling along a round about. He was involved in a road crash. He has taken it a couple of days prior.

“He was not aware it would still be in his system.

“There is no evidence of any issues with his driving.

“He has entered his guilty plea at the first opportunity.”
