The Red Arrows may be seen in Bolton again this summer as the famous air display is booked for the Blackpool Air Show.

The RAF's Red Arrows team is known for its distinctive diamond nine formation, and has been displaying since 1965.

Every year, the Red Arrows go to the Blackpool Air Show, one of the most popular air shows in England for families, and on many occasions, will fly over Bolton en-route to the show.

This year the event takes place on the weekend of August 10 and 11.

A flight path is always out before the event to show where the Red Arrows will start from and go through before ending at the show for the display.

Last year in August, the Red Arrows flew over Smithills on the way to Rochdale and then to Blackpool, where 350,000 people were welcomed over two days on the promenade.

This time, the famous aerobatic display team will perform a brand-new display high above the seafront opposite The Blackpool Tower.

Cllr Lynn Williams, leader of Blackpool Council, said: “We are thrilled to announce that the Red Arrows will perform their diamond anniversary display on both days of our Air Show.

“Last year’s event demonstrated the extraordinary pulling power of not just the Reds, but also the magnificent Typhoon display team and Battle Of Britain Memorial Flight.”

The Red Arrows may also be back flying over Bolton for the Southport Air Show.

This is regarded as one of the best air shows due to its variety and free attendance.

Last year, the Red Arrows were seen flying over the north of Bolton ahead of the show, passing over Bromley Cross.

People in Bolton captured stunning pictures of the display over the skies last year.

Chris Hoddle, who took pictures in Smithills, said previously: “They flew over very quickly and over Smithills and only about 10-20seconds going to Rochdale and then the route back down.

"The weather was not good, you can tell the clouds are grey but someone might enjoy looking at the Red Arrows.

"I saw them last year flying over this time last year and they did the same type of trip, and I was at Colliers Row and they were going to the show.”
