Update: The lanes have reopened but congestion of around ten minutes is expected.
Police were mobilised to bring an electric vehicle to a stop - after it developed an electrical fault.
Two lanes of the M62 are now closed eastbound between Junction 11 and 12, near Warrington.
Police officers from three forces used special tactics to bring the the vehicle to a safe stop.

The North West Motorway police confirmed Merseyside, Cheshire and GMP were used to bring the vehicle to a safe stop.
A spokesman for North West Motorway Police said: "Police currently have a lane three and four closure of the M62.
"This is following the use of tactics to stop an electric vehicle with an electric fault where the driver was unable to brake.
"Motorway officer from Merseyside, Cheshire and GMP brought the vehicle to a safe stop."
