Voluntary groups in Bolton are being urged to bid for cash in a Dragons' Den style contest.

The Rotary Club of Bolton with Le Moors is urging organisation to make a pitch for a slice of £2,000.

Voluntary groups being asked to step forward are those who benefit local people and possibly help socially excluded people to take part in community activities.

They could typically include church groups, scout groups, young carers, PTA groups, brass bands, support groups for people who have disabilities.

The application should, if possible, include details of a specific project on which the money will be spent.

Five 'dragons' will scrutinise the applications and a shortlist of six finalists will be drawn up. Each group will be invited to do a five minute pitch followed by a Q&A session.

The prizes are £800 for the winning entry, then £400 for second place and four prizes of £200 for the runner-ups.

Applications forms and more information can be obtained by contacting Graham Yardley, the Secretary of the Rotary Club of Bolton with Le Moors by email to graham_yardley or telephone 07836358222.

The closing date for completed applications is March 23, and the final will be at 7pm on April 22 at Bolton Golf Club.

The rotary club branch meets at Bolton Golf Club on each Monday and anyone who wishes to become a member or attend a meeting should contact Mr Yardley.
