A road in Astley Bridge will be closed for more than a month while urgent works take place 'due to the slippage of the highway'.
Waters Meeting Road will be partially closed for approximately five weeks from March 4.
The road closure will prevent traffic from driving on the road from the health Centre to Eagley Brook Way to allow the works to take place.
Alternative routes will be signposted with diversion signs.
One of the alternate routes will be via Blackburn Road.
Cllr Hilary Fairclough, ward councillor for Astley Bridge, said she hopes disruption is "kept to a minimum".
She said: “The road works are urgent and due to slippage of the highway.
"Some temporary work was done late last year but the issues needs addressing permanently for safety reasons.

“Work will start around 100 meters from the junction so people attending the doctors, the chemist and health centre will still have full access as will those people going to McDonald. The residents of the property on the other side of Waters Meeting Road will also be able to access their property.
“For people travelling to work at or visiting the cinema or gym/health club and for those people who live in Waterside Gardens access will be via Kay Street.
“I know this may be an inconvenience for some people but clearly people’s safety is paramount, and I hope disruption is kept to a minimum.”
Cllr John Walsh added: “Works take time and cost money and some inconvenience, but the benefits long term are more important.
“We need to get the slippage of the highway dealt with, it is environmental works because of ground water as I understand it which is partly because of the flooding and heavy rainfall leading to slippage.”
