Bolton Council is asking residents for their opinions on all things travel in a bid to target the investment of millions of pounds into this area over the next 15 years.

It is in the process of coming up with its own Transport Strategy covering everything from the roads to the railway, from active travel to public transport, until 2040.

By 2040, along with the other boroughs of Greater Manchester, the council is aiming for half of all trips to be via active travel or public transport – an ambition known as the 'Right Mix' target – and for there to be no fatalities or injuries across the network – an ambition known as the 'Vision Zero' target.

To achieve these ambitions there is a need for the network to be accessible and affordable, safe and secure for residents of all ages and abilities as well as environmentally friendly.

This calls for the investment of millions of pounds of funding from the government into active travel and public transport some of which is already under way by way of the Bee Network.

Bolton Council is asking residents for their opinions in a consultation that launches this week and lasts until next month.

Hamid Khurram, its cabinet member for transport, said: "Our vision of Bolton as a great place to live, work, visit or study relies on having an efficient and reliable transport system. We need it so that businesses can grow and bring jobs and prosperity and we need it so that all people have the confidence to make their journeys safely and conveniently.

"This strategy will shape transport in Bolton for years to come, so it is vital that people let us know what they want us to focus on."

The consultation launches this week and it lasts until March 22. To contribute go to https://www.bolton.gov.uk/directory-record/5215/transport-strategy-2024.
