A cracker of a photo from the archives showing work on a major new road which would connect Bolton with Preston.
Eagle-eyed readers may well have already spotted that this is the Belmont Road - seen here in 1935.
There are no JCBs or other mechanical equipment, just picks and shovels. We love the sign warning motorists about road maintenance directly in front of a large pile of rocks.
It’s to be hoped drivers had seen that before they came upon the hazard. The photo also shows some great vintage cars too.
