A burglar 'broke' into a house by burning the locks, police say.
The burglary in which money was stolen happened in the Smithills area earlier this month.
In some case burglars force entry into a house by using a blowtorch.
Police in Bolton have warned residents to 'take prevention measures' to deter burglars, saying there has been an increase in burglaries in the Heaton area.
A spokesperson for GMP Bolton North said: "Police are dedicated to responding to and tackling the ongoing issue of burglaries.
"This month, police attended a report of a burglary in Smithills. The offender(s) had gained access to the property by burning the locks and have unfortunately stolen money from the victim.
"Burglaries are very intrusive crimes and can often leave victims feeling vulnerable.
"As there has been an increase in burglaries in the Heaton area, this is a reminder to members of the public to remain vigilant and ensure that you are taking crime prevention measures."
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) provides guidance on preventing burglaries on its website.
It advises keeping your property hidden from the street to prevent burglars from entering and leaving the house unseen.
It also recommends installing a CCTV camera, a burglary alarm and external lighting.
