Renovation work at a popular beauty spot is set to begin next week.
A project to improve Chapelfield Nature Reserve in Radcliffe got the go-ahead last summer after securing funding from the Greater Manchester Environment Fun, which helps communities improve green spaces.
Building work will commence on Tuesday, February, 20 and will include pathway and access improvements, the installation of a boardwalk to cover boggy walkways, treating invasive Japanese knotweed, and undertaking tree works across the site.
A spokesperson for Proffitts said: “Contractors will begin work on site at Chapelfield Nature Reserve on Monday, February 20 and continue until early April 2024.
“The project includes woodland management, upgrading footpaths, new planting and the installation of seating and signage.
“The paths and wider site will remain open, but warning barriers will be installed around the working areas.
"Please take care when using the paths during the next few weeks as there will be machinery on site during working hours, Monday to Friday.
“Thank you to everyone for their continued support – we’ll share updates with you here as the project progresses, so do check back for details.”
Proffitts says that the plan involves upgrades across the nature reserve and a key aim is to minimise any environmental impacts and keep the public space as natural as possible.
Speaking in August last year, Cllr Alan Quinn, cabinet member for the environment, climate change and operations at Bury Council, said: "Chapelfield Nature Reserve is a beautiful space, and we’re thrilled that the Greater Manchester Environment Fund is helping us fund some of the changes needed on site.
“We want to make sure that nature can thrive in Chapelfield, and we want to give the communities close by a wonderful, outdoor space they can spend lots of time in.’’
