Motorists have been warned of a diversion following a motorway crash which has closed a carriageway.
The collision took place on the M61 Southbound tonight, February 7, between J8 Chorley and J6 Horwich.
Two cars have been said to be involved, it is not yet clear if anyone was harmed during the incident.
It has now been confirmed that there is also a burst water main, which has resulted in a significant amount of water across the southbound carriageway. National Highways are in contact with the local water utility company.
Now, National Highways has issued guidance for an official diversion following the crash.

A spokesperson said: "Diverted traffic is advised to follow the hollow square diversion symbol visible on local road signs.
"Leave M61 southbound at J8.
"At M61 J8/A674 roundabout, follow A674 westbound for 1km.
"At A674/A6 roundabout, follow the A6 southbound for 12.8km.
"At A6/A6027 roundabout, follow A6027 eastbound for 1km.
"At A6027/M61 Jct 6 roundabout, rejoin M61 southbound."

UPDATES: Motorway closed after two car crash
Lancashire Police said: "Please be advised the M61 J8 - J6 southbound and J6 - J8 northbound is closed. The road is closed due to a road traffic collision.
"We’ll provide an update once cleared and thank you in advance for your patience."
