For six years this caravan snack bar had been a favourite of motorists using the Bolton to Preston road.
But in January 1959, Bolton Corporation had decided it was time for owner Reg Lister to move on from the Belmont lay-by that had become home for his business.
Councillors claimed that Reg’s ‘butty van’ detracted from the amenities of the area leaving regular patrons ranging from lorry drivers to walkers up in arms. Belmont residents too were urging the council to rethink.
The caravan was situated on a stretch of road some 1,000 feet up with not a single other building in sight and provided hit drinks and food all year round.
Did the caravan have to move? Do you remember it?
