Young people aged 11 to 19 in Bolton have the chance to cast their vote in the elections for the Youth Member of Parliament Elections 2024.

The two candidates with the most votes will represent Bolton as Youth MPs.

Voting is open from now until Monday, March 4.

Members of Youth Parliament are elected every two years across the UK.

Once elected Members of Youth Parliament:

• meet with MPs and local councillors

• organise events

• run campaigns

• make speeches

• hold debates

• ensure the views of young people are listened to by decision makers

This year there are 10 Youth MP Candidates who have been learning about local democracy in Bolton and what it means to be a Youth MP.

Cllr Martin Donaghy, Bolton Council’s Executive Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said:“The Youth Parliament ensures that young people can make their voices heard, and having this representation for other young people across the borough is really important.

“As part of our commitment to youth voice and encouraging young people to become active democratic citizens, we fully support young people in Bolton who want to have a national voice through UK Youth Parliament.

“Likewise, we encourage all young people across the borough to take time to read the candidates manifestos and use their opportunity to vote.”

Along with voting for their new Youth MP, young people can also select one topic they care most about, as part of the Make Your Mark consultation.
