A gastropub in Manchester has been named in Estrella Damm’s new top 100 list for 2024.
The website explains that votes are collected “from more than 100 industry professionals who are key people in the hospitality industry.”
It adds: “Our judges come from leading pub businesses, editors of media brands and food writers who are geographically spread across the UK to ensure no regional bias.”
The Edinburgh Castle in Manchester is ranked in 24th place and is the only one in the city to have been recognised.

The Edinburgh Castle is located in the Ancoats area of Manchester and it’s a historic Victorian pub that re-opened in 2019.
The list says: “The Edinburgh Castle, which has an upstairs restaurant, offers a small menu of traditional British dishes featuring locally-sourced ingredients and products from local suppliers, such as sourdough bread from Manchester’s Pollen Bakery.
“Dishes include specialities such as Colchester oysters & Rhubarb mignonette, Mrs Kirkham’s Lancashire cheese doughnuts and Red House farm cull ewe - saddle chop. Sunday lunch offers a set menu with two or three courses.”
The gastropub is praised on Tripadvisor with a 4-star rating from 96 reviews.

One reviewer said: “Excellent food and lovely staff Oysters were delicious as was the beef. Lovely waitress who gave recommendations for the menu and what to do in Manchester she really made our experience great !”
Another said: “Excellent pub lunch venue in a historic building. An interesting lunch menu, enjoyed tasty oysters followed by a super beef burger and probably the best chips I’ve ever eaten .
"Some great beer to be had here . Will be returning to try the evening menu. A gem in the northern quarter”.
