Five University of Bolton students were amongst those to bring Bolton Library to life ahead of its reopening after a multi-million-pound refurbishment last week.

The third-year students from the SFX Model Making for Film and Television course made models inspired by children's literature for display across the library.

These models included Aslan the Lion, a Great White Shark, Paddington Bear, the cup for the Triwizard Tournament in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and the carriage used by Cinderella in the folk fairytale.

The third-year students responsible for them included Elizabeth Curran, Jess Flack, Jade Foster, Ailbhe Mallon and Louis McLaren.

Ms Curran, 22, said: "They'll bring lots of interest. It is so nice to see physical stuff you can recognise from books and be like 'Oh, I have read those books'.

"They'll bring back memories from reading them or watching them so you can share it with the community."

Jim Costello, the course leader for the SFX Model Making for Film and Television course, said: "We were delighted to be able to get involved in this project which enabled our brilliant students to unleash their creativity to a brief and deadline as it would be in the world of work.

"Certainly, it has been challenging for them, but the results are fantastic and we are proud their work will be on display at this lovely newly-renovated library."

Sam Elliott, the head of Bolton Library and Museum Services, said: "It has been a pleasure to work with the University of Bolton on this project. The staff and students have been superb and the standard of work is amazing.

"We now want some more models please – there is plenty of room!"

Bolton Library reopened last week after a 16-month, multi-million-pound refurbishment of the site on Le Mans Crescent.

The library shut on September 10, 2022, for the £4 million refurbishment made possible by a bid to the Towns Fund.

Over almost a year and a half it was based at a site in Crompton Place to allow for the transformation of the site on Le Mans Crescent, which opened to the public more than 80 years ago on July 4, 1938.

Now it is back to its former glory with a number of authentic, architectural features on display alongside other, forward-looking features including improved digital facilities.
