The Bolton filmed thriller Fool Me Once has been knocked off the top spot by a new true-crime documentary.

American Nightmare is now the number one TV programme in the UK on Netflix.

The three-part documentary centres around Denise Huskins and her boyfriend, Aaron Quinn, who were woken in the middle of the night by a harrowing home invasion in 2015.

But after Denise is kidnapped, Aaron became a suspect, and then things become interesting when Denise reappears, and the couple are accused of staging the ordeal.

Fool Me Once managed to get to number one on Netflix, just a day after it landed on the streaming platform.

The eight-episode drama stars Michelle Keegan, Dame Joanna Lumley, Adeel Akhtar and Richard Armitage.

The show, which was filmed in Bolton’s famous Le Mans Crescent in July last year, is based on a woman called Maya, played by Michelle Keegan, who installs a "nanny cam" to keep an eye on her young daughter.

The opening scenes of the drama also features Bolton School, which has become a popular location for filming, Cold Feet and The Stranger, which is also based on a Harlan Coben novel.

The Bolton News: Filming at Bolton SchoolThe series still remains one of the most watched on Netflix, and currently sits at number two.

The story is centred on a combat pilot (played by Michelle Keegan) in the military suffering from PTSD whose husband (Richard Armitage), from a wealthy family, is murdered.

Adapted from the novel of the same name by crime writer Harlan Coben, the show has gripped audiences with its twists.

Bolton has become renowned for filming, especially in Le Mans Crescent, which has welcomed the likes of Tommy Shelby for Peaky Blinders, and the cast of It's a Sin, as well as Hollywood A-lister Ewan McGregor for A Gentleman in Moscow, and so much more.
