A major motorway was hit by a closure over much of Saturday after police were called to a “collision.”
The suspected crash happened on the M60 around Simister Island between junctions 19 and 18 anticlockwise at just before 8am on the morning of Saturday January 20.
Road users reported heavy congestion as police and firefighters went about their work until the motorway was eventually reported to have been cleared just after 3pm that afternoon.
A North West Motorway Police statement said: “The earlier closures on the M60 anticlockwise at Simister Island have now been cleared.
“A big thank you to all who have been patient during this time.”
At first a full closure was put in place on the anti-clockwise C-way around Simister Island.
By midday on Saturday passers-by reported that though the left lane was closed, and appeared to be blocked by what looked like a crashed car, traffic was able to get past by this point.

Several fire engines were reported by eyewitnesses to have been at the scene at this point.
But at 3.10pm North West Motorway Police announced that the way was clear.
No injuries have been reported as a result of the suspected crash.
Members of the public have been urged to always call 999 in the event of an emergency.
