Dr. Francis Andrews, Medical Director at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust, said: “January is always a really busy time for our Emergency Department and hospital and community services, especially when freezing temperatures set in.

“The Met Office’s yellow warning for snow and ice means there’s an increase chance of injuries from slips and falls on icy roads and pavements, particularly for people who are more vulnerable to the effects of cold weather.

“Please take extra care when out and about over the next few days, and look out for family and friends who are more vulnerable by checking to see if they need help or are feeling unwell.

“Our emergency department is always here to help in an life or limb-threatening emergency, but there are lots of other ways you can keep safe and well, including visiting your local pharmacist who is highly-skilled to deal with winter ailments such as coughs and colds.

“You can also contact your GP or make use of the out of hours service. If you are unsure about the best place for your care, use NHS 111 online or by phone to get help for your symptoms.”
