A popular frozen yoghurt bar is reminding customers that it is still open as work gets underway on an apartment block.

Cladding is currently being removed from Marsden House leading to a section of the road being closed and scaffolding put up.

Businesses nearby are calling on people to support them as work gets underway

The project has been taking place to remove noncompliant materials from Marsden House.

These works were deemed necessary in the aftermath of the Grenfell disaster in 2017 in which 72 people lost their lives.

In the aftermath new rules meant cladding was banned and this had to be removed from existing properties.

And while this has been happening at Marsden House businesses have complained of disruption.

Syed Hassan runs the frozen yoghurt bar Frurt on Marsden Road.

And Mr Hassan said: "I would like to remind people that were are here and we are still open.

"I would encourage people to support the small businesses.

"I think local support for all small businesses is important.

"Marsden Road ties in with other businesses in Bolton which are struggling.

"Every little helps - we are a family operation, we have people from around the local area that we support with their jobs, and we want to keep doing that as much as possible."

He added: "We were only told about it a month before by the landlord

"It has affected customers' parking.

"We are down by about 15 to 25 per cent in sales.

"We opened in 2019, it was fine, we had a good following of customers.

"I will try and push through.

"I am going try everything I can to get through."

Colin Walker, the company manager at Hadrian Property Management, said: "There is one landlord who owns all commercial units at Marsden House, and there was considerable communication prior to works starting, including around months before commencement a full report on potential disruption caused by the traffic measures, including lane closures, scaffolding and signage.

"It is up to that landlord, for whom Hadrian do not act as agent, to pass on such communications to individual tenants, and it seems that he did not do so.

"Regarding the end date of the works, we are totally in the hands of the contractors and the building safety fund – ultimately the building has to be made safe, if it happens quicker than planned then we will all be delighted, but should there be delays because of further necessary works being uncovered, that will be very disappointing for all concerned.

"However, it is something we neither predict nor, for obvious reasons, ignore."
