From a trek around Rivington Pike to a stroll in Queens Park, there are many great spots in the area for Boltonians to walk.
Thanks to the Bolton News Camera Club we have featured five spots with walking routes that might not come straight to mind when thinking of somewhere to go for a walk.
Here are just five of the best places in the area to get some fresh air:
Wayoh Reservoir
This reservoir offers a beautiful view when the skies are blue and a charming atmosphere when the weather is frosty.
Wayoh Reservoir is encircled by woodland and has a three-mile footpath making it the perfect place to enjoy nature whilst getting some exercise.
For those who want to explore and see the Entwistle Viaduct – its nine arches hold the Manchester, Blackburn, and Clitheroe railway line.
For those who want a lengthier walk, they can head across to Entwistle Reservoir or follow the Witton Weavers Way, a mile south to Jumbles Country Park.
Haslam Park
This is one that can be enjoyed by the whole family.
Haslam Park is a large district park, home to a play area with a variety of play equipment.
There is a bowling green used for crown green bowls and a multi-use sports area that is suitable for football and basketball.
As well as this area, people can take a walk down to the River Croal where they can see the Manchester to Preston train line going past as well as being able to take a walk up to Lostock along the path.
Elton Reservoir
How about trying the Elton Reservoir circular walking route over the border in nearby Bury?
This is the perfect walk offering a nice path and great views of the water where visitors will often see little sailboats as well as views of the countryside and woodland.
Located in between Bury and Radcliffe, the area is a popular trail for both running and walking and is also great for cyclists.
According to All Trails it takes around 35 minutes to complete the circular trail.
Seven Acres Country Park
This is a local nature reserve and country park located in Bolton between the areas of Tonge and Breightmet.
Nestled along the Bradshaw Brook lies this hidden gem, although it might be missed due to being a built-up area, the location is packed full of nature to enjoy with a short walk.
At the country park there are 28 hectares of woodland, wildlife areas and wildflower meadows to enjoy according to the Woodland Trust.
Whilst out walking, visitors may be able to see more than 100 species of birds – putting you right within nature.
Bolton Canal – Little Lever
The Manchester, Bolton and Bury Canal originally ran from Salford, on the River Irwell near Manchester, to Prestolee, near Little Lever - it then branched off towards Bolton and Bury.
This is a lovely walk especially around Prestolee and Nob End.
According to the Canal and River Trust, the towpath is a quiet walking route away from the bustle of Bury and Bolton's town centres.
The route can also be accessed from Moses Gate Country Park.
