An investigation is underway after a the body of a man in his forties was found in Horwich in the early hours of this morning.

The death is being treated as 'unexplained'.

Emergency services were called to Station Road near the boundary of Horwich and Blackrod.

They body was found on a footpath between a recycling centre and the M61 motorway which goes over the road.

The area was cordoned off throughout the day and enquiries into the death are ongoing.

A crime scene investigation unit was also seen in the area and a tent was also put up on the scene.

Police confirmed the death was being treated as unexplained.

A GMP spokesperson said: “Police were called to Station Road in Horwich, Bolton at around 6:30am this morning, Monday 8 January 2024, to reports of a body.
“Emergency services attended, and sadly discovered the body of a man in his 40s.
“His death is currently being treated as unexplained at this time and a cordon remains in place to assist officers as they carry out enquires.

"A Home Office post mortem will be carried out.”

One man who lives nearby said: "They were there this morning when I took my son to school, that was about 8am.

"I saw the ambulance and a police car.

"There is also a crime scene car there now.

"It is right next to the motorway."
