The body of a missing Oldham man has been found in Saddleworth, police have confirmed. 

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) this evening, Thursday, that the body of John Leyland had been found in Greenfield.

Office do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances surrounding John's death.

John, who is known to his friends as Derek, last seen on Tuesday, January 2, at 10am at Tame Valley Squash and Tennis Club in Greenfield.

A spokesperson for GMP said: "A body found near the Greenfield area of Saddleworth has now been identified as missing man John Leyland.

"Officers do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death."

In an initial appeal on social media published on Tuesday by Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said it was “becoming increasingly concerned” about John. 

The 82-year-old was wearing a mustard coloured anorak jacket, black waterproof trousers, a grey cap and walking boots.
