A plan has been put forward to create a new 24-hour children’s home in Bolton.
The new home, on Staton Avenue in Tonge Fold, will care for up to three children at any one time and will also have space for two members of staff.
If approved, this will include making space for up to five bedrooms.
A statement from the developers said: “The proposed home will involve the care of up to three children by full-time, 24-hour provision.
“The practice of caring for children within large institutions is no longer considered wholly appropriate and facilities of this nature are becoming more prevalent.
“There is a particular lack of this type of provision within the Bolton area, and there is strong evidence to support the fact that children in similar circumstances benefit from being kept within or close to their own community, and in areas they are acquainted with, often maintaining their current school provision.”
The plan has been put forward by the Social Care Services Group, which was founded in 1989 to provide residential care for youngsters.
The group already has 11 similar facilities around Greater Manchester which employs around 110 people.
They claim that the new home on Staton Avenue will create the equivalent of eight new full time jobs in Bolton.
They also say that the new home is well served with bus and train links and has shops nearby on Bury Road.
The statement said: “The facility will fulfil a shortfall in provision and have no greater impact than a standard dwelling.
“The staff to child ratios will provide a high level of support and supervision for the residents.

“The company has a strong behaviour management policy and training program for staff which will minimise disruption through anti-social or criminal behaviour.
“This is proven in the operation of other homes operated by the company in the Greater Manchester area.”
The plans were put before the council on Thursday, December 14 and will be open for neighbourhood consultations until Wednesday, January 10.
The council will then aim to decide whether or not to approve the plans by Thursday, February 8.
