A police New Year’s Eve traffic blitz saw several drivers reported and cars seized over the weekend.
The operation took place on Wigan Road, Leigh over the course of Sunday, December 31 and saw cars stopped for all kinds of offences and safety violations.
Many of these drivers were given advice about safety, but some were dealt with in more serious ways.
On Sunday, a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “Officers from E relief and our Special Constabulary conducted a traffic operation today on Wigan Road, Leigh.
“Motorists were stopped for various offences including vehicle defects, seatbelts, using their phone etc.
“Drivers were given advice around the safety benefits of having a roadworthy vehicle and using a seatbelt.
“As a result of the operation, 10 traffic offence reports were issued, two drivers were summonsed to court due to having previous convictions for driving offences, seven motorists were instructed to repair major defects and four vehicles were seized for having no insurance or the driver being unlicensed.”
Police have encouraged anyone concerned about crime or anti-social behaviour on the roads to get in touch by calling 101 or 999 in the event of an emergency.
Alternative, witnesses can call independent charity, Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555 111.
