Thanks to the generosity of residents across the borough, a local Rotary group has raised more than £6,000 to support local charities with its annual sleigh.

Westhoughton Rotary Christmas sleigh has been running more than 40 years and this year has raised a fantastic £6,249.

The Rotary Father Christmas and his elves took to the streets of Westhoughton and were delighted to receive a warm welcome from local residents of all ages.

This year, the Rotary group was pleased to cover even more ground than ever before and received a great response from families.

It’s a Christmas tradition in so many households and the group were told by lots of people that the festive season only begins when the sleigh arrives on their street.

I’d like to thank the Rotarians who put so much effort into modernising our sleigh for 2023, as well as all our volunteer ‘elves’ for their tireless support.

“I must also thank the people of Westhoughton for coming out whatever the weather to greet us and to give so generously.

“We’ve raised even more money than last year, which will be put to such good use in the community throughout the coming year.

“Finally, I would like to extend our special thanks to James Booth (Bolton) Ltd and to Bolton Kia for their invaluable support.

“May I also take this opportunity to wish everyone a happy and successful 2024.”

Local charities will receive cheques from the money raised at a special presentation evening in the spring.

Rotary members always enjoy hearing about the invaluable work the charities do and the very many ways in which the money will be put to good use.
