Time was when this would have been a typical scene almost anywhere in Bolton.
A row of identical, brick-built terraced homes, all immaculately kept. Taken in 1954 this photo shows Venture Street in Great Lever. The two men working on one of these houses - notice the precarious plank they are stood on suspended between two ladders - were being supervised while a mum was off to the shops with her baby in a pram.
At the bottom of the street you can just make out the mill where many living on the street would have worked.
Anyone know which mill this would have been? Email bygones@nqnw.co.uk if you do or leave a comment.
