Ramsbottom students show generosity to help great causes

Woodhey High School pupils held fundraising stalls on Friday, December 15 to raise money for Turner Syndrome Support Society and The Brain Tumour Charity.

The stalls raised more than £600 for the two charities which were chosen as they are close to students at the school, with one pupil frequently working to help Turner Syndrome Support Society.

The event took place during the school's charity and community week, in which year seven students collected physical donations for Ramsbottom Pantry, year eight pupils gathered provisions for Bury Homeless Project and year nine youngsters received aid for SafeNet.

Year 10 pupils collected physical donations for Hewlett Court sheltered accommodation and year 11 students gathered goods for Bury Hospice.

Joseph Varey, assistant head for personal development at the school, helped the pupils with their efforts.

He said: “They’ve all done so well.

“It’s been a very stressful week for them but they’ve done great!”

A student ambassadors spokesperson added: “We are so happy with how charity week went, it brought the school and community together and hopefully we succeeded in supporting many people in need.”

The student ambassadors took a trip to Ramsbottom Pantry and Hewlett Court on December 20 to hand in the donations.

Head teacher, Dean Watson said: “One of the key parts of our mission statement at Woodhey is to be a proud and active part of our community.

“Our charity and community week, organised by our superb senior student ambassadors really embodied this.

“They organised a fantastic week, raising awareness of, and giving back to five fantastic local causes and two worthy national charities.

"It was great to see our school community pull together to help our wider community.”
