A second football pitch in Bolton has been targeted by vandals over the course of the weekend.

People turned up at the Pavilion on Sunday morning to find around £2,000 of damage had been done after a car had gone over it.

The driver had gone round in circles multiple times over the ground.

However the damage was not done to part of the pitch where the team was due to play so the game was able to go ahead.

The ground in Smithills is where Moss Bank Junior Football Club, which has around 600 members and around 60 teams, play their football.

It was not one to be damaged this weekend as bikes also drove over the Green Lane Playing Fields where the Old Rivingtonians were forced to cancel their game.

Turton FC and a pitch in Breightmet have also been targeted.

Andy Kearney, the youth secretary of the group, hit out at those who caused the damage.

He said: “It happened on Saturday night and we had a girls’ football game on the Sunday morning.

“We turned up and we noticed that.

“It was definitely done by a car.

“It was on one of the seven by seven pitches.

“We normally play where the damage was done but we moved it.

“Volunteers will have to clean it up.

“We can’t currently go and do that as it is it too wet.

“We will have to just find a clear day and go and see if we can clear it up.

“It is quite depressing.

“It makes me feel quite angry.

“It is one of those things that you don’t really need.

“If we have problems like this it is normally bikes but this time it has been a car.”

The car appears to have gone down the tractor ramp, done circles around the pitch, attempted to leave by another means, got stuck and left again by going up the tractor ramp.
