New food hygiene ratings have been awarded to eight of Bolton’s establishments, the Food Standards Agency’s website shows.

Examining food handling, the cleanliness and condition of facilities and building and the management of food safety, inspectors have rated one eatery a five out of five hygiene rating, three eateries a four out of five, three eateries a three out of five and one eatery a two out of five hygiene rating.

Cocos Cafe, a restaurant, cafe or canteen on Plodder Lane, Farnworth, was handed a five-out-of-five rating after assessment on November 15.

The inspection report states both the hygienic food handling and the management of food safety are very good while the cleanliness and condition of facilities and building is good.

Three eateries have been awarded four out of five hygiene ratings.

Smithills Open Farm Cafe, a restaurant, cafe or canteen at Smithills Dean Road, Bolton, was given the score of four after assessment on September 26.

It means that of Bolton's 436 restaurants, cafes, and canteens with ratings, 244 (56 per cent) have ratings of five and just two have zero ratings.

Three Bolton eateries have been rated three out of five by food hygiene inspectors.
