The Jingle Bell Jog  for Bolton Hospice was cancelled this morning due to snowy weather.

In a bid to raise much needed funds, Bolton Hospice were due to host a Santa and Elf Dash for the Jingle Bell Jog at Leverhulme Park today at 11am.

But this was cancelled after snow fell in Bolton overnight, and made it slightly dangerous for runners as it turned icy.

Runners were due to dress up as Santa and elves as they ran the 2K through the park.

A spokesman for Bolton Hospice said last night: “We are so sorry to share the disappointing news with you that sadly tomorrow’s scheduled Jingle Bell Jog has been cancelled.

“The running track has been assessed and the venue have advised us that it is too icy and therefore too much of a risk for participants to run on the track.

“We are devastated to have to cancel the event but hope you understand that we will always put your safety first.

“All participants should have received an email with more information about the cancellation, and how you can still complete your festive 2k and raise money to help us care for local people facing terminal and life-limiting illnesses this Christmas.”

The Bolton News recently launched its 'Save Bolton Hospice' campaign to help reduce the deficit, aiming to raise an initial £100,000.

The money is vital or the hospice faces making cuts.
