Christmas hampers will once again be delivered to struggling families this year.
Urban Outreach is launching their annual project, Christmas Dinner on Jesus, which sees families in Bolton receive food hampers with vegetables and chicken for Christmas day.
In 2022, the charity partnered up with Seddon Construction, and Clear Futures to put together the hampers before they were delivered.
A spokesman for Urban Outreach said: “We delivered hampers to an elderly lady who had just been conned out of all her life savings, and a family who had been burgled and all their Christmas presents stolen.
“Both were in tears when we gave them the hampers.”
“Having delivered four parcels, I felt totally fulfilled at the end of it. To be able to provide families who have been through difficult times over the last 12 months, the ingredients to complete their Christmas was fantastic.
“When we arrived to collect the parcels, seeing all the volunteers restored my faith in society. I went out delivering the parcels and the response was inspiring.
“All four families were overwhelmed with your kindness and couldn’t thank us enough for delivering the parcels.”
Families are nominated for the hampers by someone such as a support worker, working with them and the group then work to get them a hamper on two distribution days, including December 23, where a fresh option is included.
The fresh option is for families to enjoy Christmas day with fresh meat and fruit included along with chicken and sausages with halal options also available.
The non fresh options included schloer, custard, gravy, chocolate mints, cranberry sauce, crisps and savoury crackers as well as pulling crackers for families to have fun.
Last Christmas, Urban Outreach were able to provide 1644 Christmas hampers.
The spokesman said: “We received and were able to respond positively to all referrals from 106 nominating churches and agencies within the town and from our own service areas. Over 44 organisations, churches and individuals donated items for the hampers.
A Christmas meal that could also be reheated in the microwave is also in the hamper.
Urban Outreach provides food for disadvantaged adults and young people in Bolton as well as support.
