An inquest has opened into the death of a “loving” grandfather who died after being struck by a car.
Anthony Haughton, 55, was crossing Water Street in Radcliffe at around 6.35pm on Thursday, November 2 when a car struck him.
At Rochdale Coroner's Court on Thursday, police coroner's officer Kathy Dickson said Anthony was taken to Salford Royal Hospital after the collision but died of his injuries.
She added that Anthony was born in Manchester but lived in Radcliffe.
At the time of his death, he did not work due to illness, the court heard.

A 33-year-old man was arrested in connection with Anthony’s death on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, causing death while uninsured and drug driving.
He has since been released under investigation.
Assistant Coroner Julie Mitchell expressed her condolences to his family.
Anthony’s family gave a statement after saying they will “miss him forever”.

In a statement, they said: “Anthony was a loving father, son, brother, grandfather and partner.
“He was taken from us too soon and we are still coming to terms with this devastating news.
“He overcame many obstacles in his life and had so much to look forward to watching his children grow up.
“His loss has left a hole in our lives and we will miss him forever.”
Police have launched an appeal for witnesses with relevant information or footage in relation to the incident to make a report
