The owner of a popular town centre restaurant says he is overjoyed it has been named as a winner in the Good Food Awards.

Olympus Restaurant, which was recently visited by Paddy McGuinness, has been named a Blue-Ribbon Good Food Award winner.

It has been recognised with the prestigious award for the hard-working teams' who strive for culinary excellence within their field'.

Chosen for their food quality, service and value, the Good Food Award prestigious Blue Ribbon is bestowed upon those with high customer ratings and votes.

Owner, Tasos Pattichis, said he and his team of staff are so grateful to their loyal customers for their support.

He said: “I think it is a wonderful achievement really, I’m really happy and it is always great to be recognised.

“Whatever you do in life it is always good to be recognised especially with a Good Food Award.

“I think the staff have done a marvellous job, it is always good to have their backing and the confidence in them gives me confidence.

“I think the award was due to the quality that we put into the product as I always buy the best quality and we try to keep the prices for customers right as well.

“My staff and I have really got to thank the loyal customers for voting for us.

“They are the ones who helped us win this really prestigious award, we can’t thank them enough for that.

“I feel like the award has given us another dimension because the more that it is known we are good establishment the more I can move the business forward.”

He said: “I started years ago in the business in 1988 when I first opened my own shop here and before that in 1960 my parents had a restaurant called Olympus Grill on Churchgate and as I grew up it was compulsory to work in there.

“And I think that was the foundations of Olympus Fish and Chip Shop and giving us character for the future.

“In hospitality you have to have some personality and you have got to offer a very good product and we were fortunate enough to get that.

“A lot of people knew Olympus Grill and still to this day I get families coming in with their grandchildren through the good will of all those years.

" I see generations and it has now become a well-established name because of all of the goodwill in the past and the quality.”

The eatery is so loved by its customers it has even had the pleasure of serving much-loved stars including Paddy McGuinness and Les Dennis.

Paddy recently took a trip to Olympus with staff singing him happy birthday even though it wasn’t his birthday.

Speaking about the visit Tasos said: “Believe it or not I looked at him and I don’t watch much television because I spend most of my time at work and I recognised him but didn’t know where he was from until a member of staff told me.

“When he came in my staff looked after him and about six others extremely well, well every customer is very well looked after when they come to Olympus.

“It was quite amusing when Paddy came in because we sang happy birthday to him, he said it wasn’t his birthday and we said well it’s your birthday now.

“He is very accommodating, as a character he is so pleasant, and he had time for all of his waiters.

“He had one of our homemade cheese pies and the others had steak pies and haddock and cod.

“He came round and shook our hands, and he said it was a wonderful day.

“What a great experience for us.”
