A cookery book designed to bring women together and celebrate Bolton’s broad culture has notched up its 10th birthday.
The Taste of Bolton cookery book began in the Women in Neighbourhoods organisation as a way of sharing food and cultural ideas.
It has grown over the years and its latest edition now also focuses on health and wellbeing.
At a launch at the town hall, hosted by Bolton’s mayor Cllr Mohammed Ayub and organized by Julie Robinson, contributors and supporters came together to welcome the new book and its motivation.
Book curator and editor Gulnaz Brennan, from the SheInspires Academy, explained the importance of how crossing cultures allows greater knowledge and understanding.
She said: “Each dish in this book carries the love and care of the individuals who prepared it.”
Contributions to the book came from Lisa Adams, Mandy Worsley, Grace Robinson, Geeta Yadav, Louisa Herridge and Gulnaz and her sister Gulsha, celebrating their own mother’s food creativity and nurturing.
There was also financial support from the National Lottery Community Fund.
As yoga expert and midlife mentor, Lisa Adams said: “My recipes are jam packed with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant support, nutrients, vitamins and minerals that are needed at this time of life to support hormone health and body balance.”
The book’s recipes cover a whole range of cultural ideas – from Indian Style Shakshouka and Lentil Galouti Kebabs to Salmon Pasta and Blissful Blueberry Fool.
The book costs £10 available from https://sheinspires.org.uk/shop/
