A football club manager who served in the army will be laying a wreath during the Remembrance Sunday parade in Westhoughton.
Daisy Hill FC manager Lee Hill spent 22 years enlisted in the army, rising to the rank of staff sergeant in the Royal Engineers, and still retains a link with the regiment having taken part in the parade for a number of years.
Lee will represent the club at this weekend’s parade in his full military uniform, laying a wreath at the war memorial, which is located at the junction of Market Street and Church Street.
Lee said: “I’ve been involved in the parade for the past few years.
“I’ve got a good relationship with a number of local councillors who have invited me down to a few events, and it has grown from there.
“A range of different sections of the armed forces are represented, and it’s always a good turnout, the people in Westhoughton always come out in good numbers.

“It’s my home town and my home town’s ceremony, so it’s nice to be involved and to lay a wreath.”
The Westhoughton war memorial, located at the junction of Market Street and Church Street, was commissioned to commemorate those who lost their lives in the First World War, and recently celebrated its 100th anniversary, having been unveiled on August 3, 1923.
It has since been rededicated to remember those lost in the Second World War (1939-1945) and Afghanistan (2001-2014).
On Sunday, following a service at the memorial at 11am and laying of wreaths, the Parade will then proceed along Church Street, right along Lord Street, left up The Avenue, right along Central Drive, right down Bolton Road and right down Market Street and down Wigan Road back to St Bartholomew’s C.E. Primary School.
The mayor will take the salute on the town hall steps.
Arrangements are subject to weather conditions.
