Gritty TV drama Happy Valley which filmed a scene in a Bolton cafe is up for three TV Choice Awards.

Creator Sally Wainwright’s final season of Happy Valley on BBC One has seen a raft of nods for Sarah Lancashire’s performance as no-nonsense Catherine Cawood, James Norton as villain Tommy Lee Royce and for the show itself.

Happy Valley showcased Bolton town centre to more than 11million people earlier this year, and the hit series finale has now been nominated in the TV Choice Awards 2023.

The shows face competition for best drama series from Yorkshire Dales-set All Creatures Great And Small on Channel 5 and ITV1 detective series Vera.

Bolton’s very own Corporation Street featured on Happy Valley when the show filmed scenes at the Amico Cafe.

The independent run cafe was the setting for a confrontation between main character Sgt Catherine Cawood, played by Sarah Lancashire, and her sister, Clare played by Siobhan Finneran.

Now customers cannot help but ask which table the two sat at, and the cafe, thrilled with its showcase, has even created its own ‘Happy Valley sandwich’ to add to the menu.

Earlier this year, Happy Valley was nominated for two awards at the National TV Awards.

The 27th edition of the awards will be hosted by comedian Tom Allen on February 12 at the London Hilton in Park Lane.
