A hotel in Lancashire has been crowned the best luxury hotel in Europe at an awards ceremony.
BLVD Hotel in Blackpool was declared the Best Luxury Hotel in Northern Europe at the World Luxury Hotel Awards.
Luxury travellers from around the world gathered at Grand Hyatt Athens in Greece to see the winners crowned from more than 2,000 nominees.
Nominations are evaluated based on service delivery, luxury and presentation, as well as consistent feedback from guests, before being determined eligible. The awards, now in their 17th year, are then voted for by more than 300,000 guests and industry players.
Klaus Spiekermann, general manager at the seafront hotel BLVD, said: “BLVD is truly one-of-a-kind and being awarded in this way is testament not only to our wonderful surroundings, but to the dedication of our teams who consistently offer luxury to our guests.
“While still a relatively new offering, being named the best luxury hotel in Europe confirms the unique and special destination we have built.
"Our intention has always been to set a new standard for luxury and this award means a great deal as we continue to establish ourselves as one of the UK’s – and now Europe’s – leading destinations.”
BLVD Hotel is the latest addition to Blackpool Pleasure Beach’s accommodation offering, which also includes the adjacent Big Blue Hotel. Both properties are part of the Blackpool Pleasure Beach portfolio which has been operated by the Thompson family since the resort’s inception in 1896.
Amanda Thompson OBE, CEO of Blackpool Pleasure Beach, said: “BLVD continues to prove itself as an example of what it means to be a truly luxurious and hospitable destination.
“We strive to exceed all expectations and provide unparalleled experiences so it’s an honour to be recognised by such a prestigious award. The fact it is voted for by guests makes it all the more special.”
The £12 million BLVD Hotel opened in 2019 with 120 stylish room, all with either coastal vistas or direct views of the attractions and rollercoasters at Blackpool Pleasure Beach. Rooms feature bespoke artwork, complemented by materials sourced from renowned British companies, including handmade furniture by Tetrad, Designers Guild fabrics and wall coverings by Andrew Martin.
Other UK hotels awarded include Barnsley House Hotel in the Cotswolds for Best Luxury Spa Hotel, The Caledonian in Edinburgh for Best Luxury Historical Hotel, and London’s Waldorf Astoria for Best Luxury City Hotel.
Commenting on the awards, Jana Stoman, executive manager for the World Luxury Award, said: “Travellers today increasingly value experiences over possessions and are willing to invest in unique, authentic, and immersive travel experience. It is with the unwavering commitment of dedicated staff that guests can enjoy this.
“We congratulate the winners, who have worked hard and tirelessly to be successful in a very competitive industry.”
