A large part of a building in Farnworth where the roof collapsed has been demolished.

Emergency services were called to the back of the Fide Design Café on Market Street last month after the damage to the property.

The roof at the back property had collapsed and extensive damage had taken place.

Fire services attended and made the area safe and the cafe was closed in the aftermath of the incident.

A significant amount of the structure from the back of the property has been removed and workers are still carrying out repair work at the site.

Gaps can be seen which show rooms in the parts of the building which have been kept in place.

Ward councillor Sue Haworth said work had been done to make the area safe and praised the firefighters who had attended.

She said: “Local residents and visitors to the area can be assured that council building control are required to act when buildings become imminently dangerous structures.

“This was the case that day when the roof collapsed.

“An assessment of the building took place and this included understanding what needed to take place to make the building safe.

“Everyone is grateful for the swift action that day of passers by, and those at near by buildings who raised the alarm, along with the sterling work of fire fighters from Farnworth Fire Station.”

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service added: “Just before 11.30am on October 19, one fire engine from Farnworth fire station and the technical response unit from Ashton fire station attended an incident on Market Street, Farnworth.

"The incident involved a collapsed roof of a mid-terrace building.

"The building was evacuated and crews worked to make the scene safe before handing the incident to colleagues at Bolton Council.

"Crews were in attendance for just over two hours.”
