A group of suspected burglars “made off empty handed” from what is believed to be an attempt to steal car keys.
Police say that the group tried to make their way into a home on Holden Road, Leigh at the start of this week.
An investigation is now underway.
A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “In the early hours of 31/10/2023 on Holden Road, Leigh, we believe several offenders attempted to gain entry into an address to obtain car keys for a new vehicle parked outside.
“The offenders were disturbed and made off empty handed.
“Please check security measures that you have in place, keeping vehicle keys away from any windows or doors.
“If your car is keyless we advise that you place your car keys in a signal jamming box or pouch.”
This comes amid long running concerns about burglary and car thefts all across the Greater Manchester city region.
In several cases, car keys have been targeted in people’s homes by suspected burglars.
Police have appealed for anyone with any information to get in touch by calling them on 101 or 999 in the event of an emergency.
Alternatively, witnesses can call independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
