Safety concerns have been raised after a series of accidents at junctions with no give way lines.
Emergency services were called on Saturday at around 2.30pm after a child on a bike was struck by a car on Essingdon Street in Daubhill.
Numerous accidents have happened in the area over the last six months with Auburn Street and Range Street, prompting residents to call on the council for give way lines to be repainted to make it clear.
Since the lines were repainted, there have been no accidents on the same junction, but all the nearby junctions also have faded give way lines, and residents feel accidents will continue to happen in these places.
Billa Ahmed, who witnessed the incident at the weekend, said: “These bikes are not suitable for the roads and new lines are needed on the roads.
"They have also not given us double yellows and so cars cannot always see when people park either side.
“I know you need to use common sense, but it is an extra caution.”
But Mr Ahmed understands that not every child will stop at a give way line and reiterated that more efforts need to be made to educate children about road safety, such as the Green Cross Code and the importance of wearing helmet.
He said: “I am not sure if the lines would make a difference to a child, but we still need them.
“This is not just a problem here but all over Bolton as well and so we need to help children learn road safety.”
Cllr Abdul Atcha, who represents Rumworth, said he was aware of the accident and would be pushing for all the give way lines in the area to be repainted.
He said: "We have been pushing for the whole area to have the give way lines repainted as a priority, but again it cannot happen without a plan as they do not just go and repaint lines anywhere.
"However, I am pushing the council to do this as a matter of urgency, so I am on the case and it is high up on my list of priorities."
